In just under 60 years, the population of Fort Walton Beach, Florida has swelled from 90 to 175,000, enjoying growth in many quarters. Many ingredients combine to make Okaloosa County in general and Fort Walton Beach in particular the busy, prosperous place it is today, most notably five: the presence of the military (most notably Eglin Air Force Base); the accompanying technology industry; the incredible educational prospects; the lower-than-average costs of living; and the quality of life.
