History of Panama City

Every morning, both natives of and tourists to Panama City ask themselves, "What will I do today?" The brilliant emerald-colored waters invite all to peer below their depths into another world. Dolphins frolic alongside the shrimping boats. Sugar-white sands tempt visitors to lie down and luxuriate in the warm sun, at least for a little while.

Panama City, in Florida's Bay County, contains 27 miles of Gulf-front beaches with a temperate climate moderated by the Gulf's warm water and cool breezes. Boating, diving, snorkeling, and fishing are only some of Bay County's Gulf Coast activities. Besides the beaches, Bay County offers an array of recreational activities, world-renowned golf courses, and wonderful restaurants that cater to any family's taste or budget.

Tourists being arriving in Panama City in March for Spring Break; the last of the tourists leave in October, when the large Snow Bird population show seeking more temperate climates in favor of the frigid, snowy winters of the north. Winter cold snaps generally only last between a few days to two weeks.

The Gulf Stream comes ashore in Panama City creating warm waters that house a wide variety of sea life. Six historic sea vessels, like the 465-foot-long Empire Mica, are sunk right off the coast which, along with numerous reefs, afford snorkelers and divers endless adventure. Local diving shops can provide any necessary information for the underwater marvels.

Don't forget the fishing opportunities! Small and large fish, for dinner or for sport, can be caught in the waters of the Gulf. Fish in the shallow waters off Panama City's many piers, or fish in the deep waters in a chartered boat. Have your own boat? Panama City contains numerous marinas that house vessels small and large. And on the topic of fish, Panama City offers a number restaurants serving seafood that "slept last night in the Gulf."
